Thanks for everyone who attended MaRS Tour!

Thanks for everyone who attended our Summer Research Seminar today! We had over 50 people joined us and special thanks to all of our awesome speakers. As promised, a copy of the slide is now posted! Enjoy and wish you all the best with summer position endeavor!

Thank you for everyone that came!

More than 70 students came to learn more about the biomedical industry, and we hope they went home with all their questions answered and a further in depth knowledge regarding this field from the diverse selection of company representatives:
-Kangaroo Group: Contract manufacturing of medical devices
-Baylis Medical: Distributor of high-tech cardiology, radiology, and pain management products
-Tissue Regeneration Therapeutics Inc.: Tissue regeneration studies involving Human Umbilical Cord PeriVascular Cells and biodegradable scaffolding
-Komodo Open Lab: Developer of inclusive technologies that facilitate the daily lives of people with disabilities
-Sanofi Pasteur: Largest developer of safe and effective vaccines to protect people from infectious diseases
-PEY students from Baylis, Sanofi, InteraXon, Harvard/MIT, and Executive Health Centre.

Special thanks to Professor Yip for combining this event with 3rd year Engineering Science Biomed option seminar!

The Professor-Student Mixer was a great success!
We had 7 guests coming in to share their experience with approximately 40 students:
- Professor Santerre, Director of IBBME, Polymeric Biomaterials
- Professor Yip, Interim co-chair for EngSci Biomed Option, Molecular Imaging
- Professor Sone, Organic-Mineral Composite Biomaterial
- Professor Carter, Healthcare Engineering
- Dr. Marques, on behalf of Professor Popovic, neuro/rehab
- Dr. Alipanahi, on behalf of Professor Frey, Biocomputation
- Edward Sykes, on behalf of Professor Chan, Molecular Imaging
After the guests introduced themselves, the students, ranging from CIV, MIE, ECE, MSE, EngSci, CHEM, and LifeSci, had a chance to talk to them face to face and learn more about biomedical engineering in the academic field. We hope it was insightful for many of our attendees and we look forward to seeing more of them at our next event - Industrial/PEY Mixer!

2012 BMEC Video

The second annual Biomedical Engineering Competition (BMEC), hosted by the Club of Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering, took place on February 11th, 2012.
Nine teams of students ranging from first years in Industrial Engineering to fourth years in biomedical engineering were asked to tackle a real world biomedical engineering problem. Their goal was to improve the standard of living of the elderly population by developing an innovative and user-friendly design that would solve the problems derived from the severe loss of handgrip and wrist twisting strength. Limited in materials and time, the teams had to prototype and demonstrate their design to fellow competitors and judges from IBBME: Professors Fernie, Popovic, and Santerre. A range of innovative ideas were showcased, which impressed the audience and the judges alike. The fierce competition provided a challenge for the judges to determine the victors. However, the team comprising of Navid Javadi, Eric Ma, Mike Kwon, and Zongyi Yang came out on top in a close race thanks to their reliable and intuitive prototype which stemmed from their well-grounded design philosophy. Although only one team was crowned the champions, all the participants walked away with a more in-depth knowledge of challenges that arise in the field of biomedical engineering.
