What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

Design-thinkers call this kind of question a wicked problem because the criteria for solving it shifts with every passing moment. I’m trying really hard not to wish for an achievement that may or may not happen 2, 5 or 10 years down the line. Instead, let me tell you what excites me about biomedical engineering (BME) and keeps me motivated to work in this field right now: it’s how everyone around me is devoted to improving the lived experiences of others around them! BME the most wholesome place to be! Don’t believe me? Click through all the other exec profiles on this page and see for yourself <3

BMEC Director

Judy Xia

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

I am currently pursuing a minor in Biomedical Engineering and after graduation, I hope to pursue PhD studies in biomedical engineering in research fields related to drug delivery, oncology or biomaterials.

Hassaan Inayatali

BMEC Director

Hassaan Inayatali

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

In the biomedical engineering field, I hope to innovate in the tissue and organ engineering field toward helping to someday render organ transplants obsolete.

Ally Cheung

BMEC Director

Ally Cheung

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

I am interested in studying regenerative medicine. I am always passionate about creating opportunities and experimenting with possibilities through initiating design projects which require diverse technical and administrative skills. After graduation, I aspired to make a lasting impact as a biomedical start-up founder.

Bipasha Goyal

Alumni Outreach Director

Bipasha Goyal

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

I hope to use innovative techniques in the field of nanomedicine for targeted and efficient drug delivery against hard to treat diseases like cancer.

Daniel Esser

Industry Outreach Director

Daniel Esser

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

As a Biomedical Engineer, I am hoping to use my skills and knowledge in Robotics Engineering to develop new surgical technologies that enable less invasive, more accurate, and overall safer surgical interventions.

Emily Chen

Finance Director

Emily Chen

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

I’m mostly interested in rehabilitation and regenerative medicine! I once saw a research presentation on back hand mobility for a quadriplegic patient and I was immediately drawn to this field. If I could be able to “erase” disabilities with biomedical engineering, it would be the most rewarding thing!

Jasnoor Guliani

Social Director

Jasnoor Guliani

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

In the biomedical field, I hope to explore medical device design that can make important devices more accessible to vulnerable populations that are traditionally underserved by the health care system.

Jenny Wei

Workshop Development Director

Jenny Wei

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

I hope to design innovative solutions to issues in regenerative or habilitative medicine. I plan to pursue graduate studies in biomedical engineering.

Kevin Jin

Tech Director

Kevin Jin

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

Given the rapid advancements in computing technology and tools for gathering large amounts of biological data, I’d like to apply machine learning to solve complex biomedical problems and gain more insights into how the human body works to treat diseases and improve human health.

Minnie Menezes

Communications Director

Minnie Menezes

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

In the near future, I plan on completing the Biomedical Engineering and the Mechatronics and Robotics minors, making connections between the two fields as much as possible. After I graduate, I hope to go on to graduate school (at least a Master’s!), focusing on biomedical engineering so that I can further my studies, research, and expertise in the biomedical field.

Samantha Chan

Student Relations Director (ArtSci)

Samantha Chan

What do you wish to achieve in the biomedical engineering field?

As a life science undergrad, I would love to step a step further in exploring BME. My next goal in my academic career is to continue at UofT for a Masters of Biomedical Engineering. There is still so much more for me to explore in BME – one day, I would love to apply my BME knowledge in the medical field and make a difference in the healthcare industry.
